Trip to the Riverside Museum

I visited the Riverside Museum in Glasgow today, the new home of the Museum of Transport. It opened last year and has been designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. It is situated on the River Clyde in an area called Glasgow Harbour. This is where a number of shipyards once existed and is now a mixture of redevelopment (apartments, empty shops, hotels) and dereliction (vast, flat wastelands, rotting dry docks and crumbling red brick factories). The outside of the Riverside Museum is clad in zinc panels and it has a flowing, organic form. The inside is a sort of lime green contoured affair. The design is by no means subtle –you are aware of the design all the time –the architectural equivalent of white noise -however it is very spectacular and the architect has created a very large, volumous space. The museum is very photogenic, hence so many snaps.
